Richard Daft's tour to America 1879. Very early and rare original mono photograph of the twelve players, seated and standing in rows wearing cricket attire, with two officials, E. Brown, Secretary and J.P. Ford of Nottinghamshire Town Council. The photograph laid down to photographers mount with title 'Daft's All England Eleven 1879 to top border of mount and the players and officials names to lower border. Ford had invited Daft, then Captain of Nottinghamshire, to take a team of professionals to tour North America in the autumn of 1879, with both cricket and baseball matches played in Ontario, Detroit, New York, Germantown and Philadelphia. In addition to Daft, Nottinghamshire were represented by Alfred Shaw, John Selby, Arthur Shrewsbury, William Oscroft, William Barnes and Frederick Morley. Five Yorkshire players made up the party, Tom Emmett, George Ulyett, Ephraim Lockwood, William Bates and George Pinder, all of whom are featured in the photograph. The 'Permanent Carbon Photograph' by F. Gutekunst of Philadelphia and published by Simons of Long Row, Nottingham measures approx 17.5"x16". Framed and glazed in modern frame, overall 23"x21". 'Light' mark running vertically through the photograph surface otherwise in very good condition for its age. The photograph purchased by the vendor as lot 77 of the Cavendish Auctions, Derby sale of July 1996, it was featured on the front cover of the catalogue. England tour to Australia 1936/37. Seven mono candid photographs taken during the 1936/37 tour. Five photographs are of the second Test at Sydney and depict Australia taking the field at the start of the match, Barnett and Fagg walking out to bat for England, a view of the packed new grand stand, England walking out to field in Australia's second innings, and Fingleton and O'Brien walking out to bat for Australia. The other two photographs show Les Ames, Maurice Leyland, Jim Sims and two others standing outside the Bellevue Hotel, Sydney, and a view of the crowd queuing outside Melbourne Cricket Ground for the fifth Test. Each measures 4.5"x2.75". The Melbourne photograph rather faded, the others are nice images in very good condition
