The Cricket Paintings Of Gerry Wright (1931-2015)

Knights are delighted to offer a fine collection of original oil paintings depicting cricket by artist Gerry Wright (1931-2015). Gerry Wright (1931-2015). His vibrant idiosyncratic works have been widely exhibited and are instantly recognisable. His paintings are in the possession of many private collectors.

Born in 1932, Gerry Wright studied in Maidstone and London and at the Beaux Arts Paris. In 1968 he moved to Wiltshire and the landscape formed the background to, and the inspiration for, many of his paintings. Gerry was fascinated by the Golden Age of cricket and his work culminated in the publication of 'Cricket's Golden Summer' in 1985. After moving to Bath in 1987, Gerry continued to paint every day and many of his contemporay works depict the drama and action of todays batsman and bowlers. A fast bowler himself, he was fascinated by bowler's grips and some of those paintings are also offered at this auction. He has painted many of the great cricketers including Bradman, Imran Khan, Viv Richards and Shane Warne. There have been many exhibitions of his work in London and elsewhere and recently an exhibition of his work was held at Lord's. A cricket painting of Wright's hangs in the banqueting room at Lord's.

'Gerry's paintings have a very personal style, concentrating on those most English of subjects, landscapes and cricket'.
