Victor Thomas Trumper. New South Wales & Australia 1894-1914. Sepia real photograph postcard of the scoreboard for Canterbury v Australians played at Christchurch, 27th, 28th February, 2nd March 1914. The scoreboard shows Canterbury having been dismissed for 92 in their first innings and the Australian's total at 651 for 9 at the close of the second day's play, Trumper having scored 293 and Sims 182no in a record partnership in first-class cricket for the eighth wicket of 433 runs, a record that stands to this day, and also Trumper's highest score to date. The Australians won the match by an innings and 364 runs. The postcard is addressed to Trumper with the message, 'A memento from J.W. Roberts, Sydenham, Christchurch'. A rare postcard with an excellent association. Some creasing and wear, generally good condition

The photograph features the players in cricket attire holding bats and balls. Players include H.H. Stephenson, Caffyn, Mortlock, Hearne, Mudie, Iddison, F. Stephenson, Sewell etc. The photograph has title and players names to lower border of mount. The photograph measures 2.5"x4". This was the first English tour of Australia. Arthur Percy Frank Chapman. Cambridge University, Kent & England 1920-1938. "Comic" Series no. 3819 colour postcard featuring a cartoon of two gentlemen and two ladies seated on a bus or tram with the title 'There's many a fellow gets clean-bowled with this leg-theory and body-line stuff!'. The two men are reading newspapers, one reading a 'Cricket Edition' has been captioned in ink 'A.P.F.C.', the other reading a 'Racing Special' is captioned 'Case' (Somerset). Postmarked 28th June 1938 when Kent were playing Somerset at Tunbridge Wells, the postcard is addressed to 'A.P.F. Chapman Esq, Bodyline & Leg Theory Expert, County Cricket Ground, Tunbridge Wells, Kent' with the message 'All the best. "Good Ealth" [sic], Massy P' (Massey Poyntz, former Somerset Captain). Sold with three mono press photographs of Chapman. G/VG

In his history of Somerset cricket David Foot described how in 1928 when Bill Voce was experimenting with leg theory bowling "(Case) missed the ball, fell in a ludicrous heap and then picked up a stump instead of the bat."
